FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions

Where is Rigamajig made?

The Rigamajig Basic Builder Kit, Add-On Kits, and Workshops are manufactured in Rhode Island. All components are made in the United States. Rigamajig Jr. and Rigamajig Jr. Spinning Tops are manufactured in Vietnam.

What is the difference between Rigamajig Basic Builder and Rigamajig Jr?

Rigamajig Basic Builder is a much larger scale building kit than Rigamajig Jr., and it has many more parts to share. It’s intended for 2-20 kids to play together in a supervised environment. Our Add-On Kits are compatible only with the Basic Builder, and not with Rigamajig Jr.

Teachers across North America have been developing lesson plans that use Rigamajig to learn simple machines, mathematics, STE(A)M topics, and much more. Best yet, the students design ways to use Rigamajig in the classroom and all around the school.

See some examples HERE.

Rigamajig Jr. is a smaller-scale version of the Rigamajig Basic Builder that’s ideal for shared play among 1-4 kids. It requires less open space, and stores in its own gym-bag sized duffle. Rigamajig Jr. is great for home use too!

Where are the instructions?

Rigamajig has no instructions or right and wrong answers. It’s designed to inspire creativity and hands-on play with no set outcomes. Children are free to build and make whatever they can imagine! See Project Plans + Printable Resources if you’d like some ideas and inspiration to help you get started.

How do I assemble Rigamajig?

Rigamajig Basic Builder, Rigamajig Jr. and Rigamajig Jr. Spinning Tops don't require any additional assembly to get started. For helpful guides on assembling other items like the Rigamajig Workshops, Workshop Stool, or Basic Builder Cart please visit the Assembly Instructions page.

Care & Safety

Care & Maintenance For Your Rigamajig

With a little attention, your Rigamajig will last generations. This can be a fun activity to do with children, and they’ll learn about wood as well as caring for their tools and toys. To refinish the wooden elements, lightly sand the surface and refinish using a trusted brand of child safe varnish. Follow the varnish manufacturer’s instructions for best results.

We recommend periodic inspections to insure planks remain smooth enough for tender hands. If the planks suffer dings and dents, simply sand lightly with 300 grit sandpaper to prevent splintering and create a smoother finish.

How To Clean Your Rigamajig

All of these readily-available cleaners are safe to wipe the Rigamajig wooden boards clean:
Lysol All-Purpose Cleaner Spray
Lysol Brand II Disinfecting Wipes
Clorox Disinfecting Wipes
Soap and water

Wingbolts and nuts are made of an extremely durable recycled nylon. They can be washed with soap and water, or you can clean them using a dishwasher or in a washing machine. Be sure to place the loose parts in a mesh bag to avoid damaging your appliance while it is operating.

Safety

Children should be supervised at all times while playing with or around the Rigamajig Basic Builder. Rigamajig contraptions should never be climbed on, stood upon, or ridden. We believe that large solid wood parts are an empowering way for children to explore constructive and imaginative play.

Encourage children to be aware of their surroundings and play cooperatively. Children and their adult helpers should be cautious during the “dis-assembly” of Rigamajig contraptions. Have children work together when taking things apart, and be aware of cause and effect when removing and loosening parts. Hint: When taking apart a contraption, start at the top!
