Marketing + Sales Director

Reports to: Heroes Will Rise, Inc. President, Cas Holman

Location: Brooklyn, NY / Remote

The Company:

Heroes Will Rise (HWR) was founded by Cas Holman in 2006 to support the design, manufacture, and marketing of child-directed play products and spaces. The company works with clients worldwide to design custom spaces and objects for play and is currently focusing on growing their successful B2B Rigamajig Brand collection, a unique and collaborative large-scale building toy. Originally designed as a pop-up playground for the High Line Park in NYC, the Rigamajig brand, a multi-million dollar product line has grown into a family of 13 play products found in thousands of schools, children’s museums, libraries, parks and homes worldwide with global distribution partners in the US, Canada, Australia, The Netherlands, The United Arab Emirates and China. HWR is dedicated to the goal of building a culturally diverse and pluralistic team.

HWR Mission:

To impact the global culture of education and childhood by promoting the importance of play, creativity, and gender-nonspecific, open-ended activities. They do so by designing high-quality child-directed play products and spaces that are accessible to children of diverse abilities and backgrounds.

Marketing + Sales Director, Position Overview:

HWR is seeking an experienced, creative, and entrepreneurial minded Director of Marketing & Sales. The role’s focus is 80% marketing and 20% sales. This individual will be owning the development, positioning, implementation, execution and strategy to invent a completely new market from the ground up. They have a proven ability to build and develop relationships, partnerships and cross collaborations to support brand and utilize design thinking to create impact. The ideal director will analyze markets, develop, test and iterate through different marketing plans, will have successful sales results, marketing, and growth strategy designed to position HWR as a leading provider of open-ended child directed play products and spaces.

Primary Responsibilities:

Marketing Strategy & Implementation

  • Formulating a strategic approach to value creation in education, consumer, and museum markets to achieve annual and long-term performance goals
  • Develop and implement marketing strategy to expand current international distribution channels and partnerships
  • Developing and leading HWR growth plans over the next 3-5 years to scale the company’s marketing and sales initiatives, set priorities, and ensure all systems are trending up over time. This role will be growing the company's bottom line by working at the intersection of sales, technology, data, and marketing.

Brand Management

  • End-to-end ownership of our marketing channels across paid search, paid social, affiliate, SEO, email, and referral - you will be strategizing, prioritizing, and scaling these channels.
  • Bringing together an internal team focused on sales and marketing with expertise in both education and consumer markets. 
  • Ensure that brand identity, messaging and marketing and communications strategy are infused in all.

Public Relations

  • Optimizing our education and museums sales funnels and our website conversion funnel to maximize customer throughput and revenue growth.
  • Seek out and engage Community Foundations to support Rigamajig products access to young learners in public schools and STE(A)M focused organizations to Rigamajig.


  • Act as an Ambassador of the company and its products in domestic and International markets.
  • Identify and attend appropriate-product focused conferences and exhibits to promote Rigamajig products.
  • Promote Rigamajig products in the international schools’ market.


  • Demonstrated commitment to the mission and values of Heroes Will Rise, with an interest in children, learning, creativity, and plan
  • 5+ years of successful leadership experience in a creative, entrepreneurial environment focused on scaling an established start-up small business
  • Demonstrated success in team leadership, with a successful track record of recruiting, inspiring, and retaining a diverse, mission-driven team
  • Proven results in implementing marketing and communications strategic plans
  • Exceptional presentation, communication, and interpersonal skills, and the ability to serve as a compelling ambassador for Rigamajig with a variety of stakeholders
  • Experience managing internal operations and building structures and systems to ensure efficient use of resources
  • Keen analytical and strong problem-solving skills, in support of sound decision making

Additional Knowledge or Experience

  • Sales experience with data and analytical skills
  • Knowledge of design, branding and marketing techniques
  • Experience with non profits and B2B


Compensation will commensurate with experience and qualifications, and include performance-based incentives.
